Ceili House is a long standing Irish pub situated in Hess Village, Hamilton, Ontario. ARCADE is an arcade bar and lounge upstairs at Ceili House, the first of it's kind in Hamilton. It boasts a collection vintage arcade games and pinball machines from the late seventies and early eighties.
In 2015 Ceili House decided to rebrand. The brief was to emulate the signage style of Dublin pubs and shops from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The interior itself is old fashioned and similar to numerous inner city Dublin pubs. This old world sensibility is emphasised through the choice of type face and the production process of the signage; gold leaf on glass.
The intention with ARCADE's branding was to preserve and utilise the simplicity of the early arcade game's vector graphics and to regain the visual impact as they transitioned from black and white to basic, vivid colour. This, alongside another familiar element from school days (for those of a certain age!), chalkboards, has helped to create a brand that is nostalgic in this age of 'retro', yet keeping it fresh and visually strong.
